The disability rights movement, an ongoing struggle by individuals who live life with a disability label to gain full citizenship, is a civil rights issue. Many individuals, due to their disability, have been denied equality, independence, autonomy and full access to society.
It is often attitudinal barriers that affect everyday life for individuals who have a developmental disability. In addressing those barriers through positive awareness efforts, fears and negative attitudes can be replaced with knowledge and understanding.
We are inviting everyone to participate - to look beyond an individual's disability to picture that person's potential, seeing the individual's unique abilities, capabilities and contributions. To be an inspirer; to encourage families and individuals who have a disability to work toward their own dreams, and raise awareness and understanding within your community. If we can dream it, we can achieve it!
"In the end, we will remember not the words of our
enemies, but the SILENCE of our friends."-- MLK, Jr.
