Community Now! Recommendations for the 85th Texas Legislative Session

Close and consolidate State Supportive Living Centers:
Direct the Health and Human Services Commission to create a State Supported Living Center (SSLC) Closure Commission to develop a plan that would close seven SSLCs by 2022. The Closure Commission will also include the following in the plan:
Re-direct all funds saved through SSLC closure and consolidation to decrease the number of people on waiting lists for community services.
Ensure people with intensive medical and behavioral health needs transitioning from SSLCs have supports and services they need to live in the community.
Provide funding to decrease the waiting lists for Texans with disabilities on Medicaid waiver services by 20%.
Provide funding to support a system that will provide exceptional, accountable community services for Texans with disabilities.
Provide funding to increase the hourly wage for Personal Care Attendants to a minimum of $13.00 per hour.
